Our mother passed away peacefully on October 16th at her home in Victoria with her daughters by her side. Lois was born in Manitoba to a large family of 7 girls and 2 boys. They were a lively group and Lois often reminisced about happy times. The entire family enjoyed singing and playing music and Lois joined the church choir as an adult. She trained as a nurse in Brandon, Manitoba.
She interrupted her career to start her family but returned to work in Yorkton, Saskatchewan at the regional hospital. She moved her family to Victoria in 1972 while her three children were in their teens. It was an exciting time to discover all Vancouver Island had to offer. Except for a few years working for the provincial government, Lois worked at the Royal Jubilee Hospital until her retirement in 1996.
Lois loved living life to the fullest. In her youth, she loved to go out dancing and later in life spent many happy days boating around Vancouver Island. She enjoyed making her house a home; cooking, sewing, decorating, and gardening. Her picnics were world-class! She loved music, singing and poetry. To see her light up, simply play some opera or read her a poem. She had an artistic eye and appreciated all artwork. Above all, she knew how to savour the beauty of life's little moments.
Lois is survived by her daughters, Carole (Edwin) Evanik and Laurel Polkosnik, granddaughters Linsay (Gary) Stoodley and Ashley Evanik, and great-grandchildren, Bodee and Luke Stoodley and Brianna and Jackson Tulloch. Also, she is survived by her former husband, Richard Davis and is predeceased by her first husband, Stanley Polkosnik and her son, Wesley Polkosnik.
She departed this world with dignity and grace. She will be sadly missed by us all.
At Lois' request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
