James William Hugh Hamilton, better known as Bill or “Uncle Bill,” and “Popop” passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, surrounded by his family.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Sue, his son Hamish and Hamish’s wife Shannon, and his grandchildren August and Hugh. He also leaves behind a legacy of building projects, some well‑used tools, and the many friendships he fostered over the years.
Originally from England, Bill came to Canada in 1967. With his distinctive personality, generous spirit, and deep loyalty to his friends, he became a familiar and much-loved presence in Vancouver. He had a lifelong love of building and fixing things and was always ready to lend a hand. This past summer, he and Sue moved to Victoria to be closer to their son and family.
We’d love you to join us in remembering and celebrating Bill on May 3rd from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the University of British Columbia Botanical Garden (6804 SW Marine Dr in Vancouver)
***The BMO Marathon is also happening on May 3rd so please allow some extra time to cross the course and park for the celebration.
