December 15, 1933 – August 25, 2021

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother Gwen. Mom left this world on her own terms. Born in Rockglen, Saskatchewan to homestead parents, Frances & Bernard Edgar Mason of Strathallen, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by her parents, brothers Edgar Bohun Mason & Bernard Harvey Mason. Survived by sons Bob (Jean), Tony (Bev), Rory (Cindy) and daughter Laura (Les). Also 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren with the 8th on the way. In 1946, after the death of her father, Gwen and her mother relocated to Victoria, B.C. Gwen attended Margaret Jenkins school and Victoria High School. Gwen was a dedicated member of the Victoria Girls Drill Team, 1950 – 55. Gwen’s young family relocated to greater Vancouver in 1958 due to our father’s career opportunity.

Mom loved raising her family in Surrey and Burnaby, she was our biggest supporter in all our sports and adventures. As a single parent, she worked tirelessly at supporting her family. We are forever thankful. Gwen retired from B.C. Tel in 1997 after a 26 year career. Mom spent her retirement years as an avid golfer, world traveler and a lover of Jazz music. Gwen also dedicated herself to researching and cataloging her family lineage. Mom recently moved back to Victoria so that she could be closer to her family.

Our family would like to thank the staff and her friends at Alexander Mackie Lodge, the doctors and staff at the Royal Jubilee and Victoria Hospice for their great care and professionalism of our mother in the last weeks of her life. No service arrangements at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations to OWL, Orphaned Wildlife Rehab Society in Delta and/or Critter Care Wildlife, Langley, would be greatly appreciated by Mom.
