Obituary for George 'Allan' Sangster

February 7, 1947 – November 15, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George 'Allan' Sangster on November 15, 2024, at the age of 77. Al, as he was known to everyone, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. His sudden departure leaves a deep void in the lives of all who knew him.

Al leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Val, whose partnership and devotion were the foundation of a beautiful life together. He was the proud father to his daughters, Shannon, Jodi (John), and Lesley, as well as two bonus daughters, Selena (Phil) and Stacey (Jeff), all of whom were blessed by his guidance, love, and unwavering support.

As a grandfather, Al took immense pride in his growing family, with 11 grandchildren who will forever hold his memory dear. His legacy lives on through Trevor, Alex (Emma), Nick (Kennedy), John (Makayla), Megan (CJ), Derek, Hunter (Kendall), Kristin, Kole, Dylan (Marin), and Laurel (Jayden).
Al was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Alexander, and his beloved sisters Betty, Louise, Wendy, and Genevieve. While they are gone, his family's love and memories of Al will carry on forever.

Al’s work ethic and service to others were a true testament to his character. He worked on the grade crew for 42 years and “Boomer” was also an honorary fireman with the Lake Cowichan Fire Department, where he earned the respect and admiration of his community. Al had a love for the outdoors, and whether it was camping or fishing, he always cherished the time spent with family and friends in nature and watching his grandkids play sports. Val will forever cherish their recent dream trip across Canada by rail and the East Coast by car.

Al was also known for his quick wit, boundless knowledge, and ability to make everyone laugh with his "pillar of useless knowledge" – a title he wore with pride. But more than anything, Al loved helping others. Whether it was offering a helping hand or a listening ear, he gave selflessly and never asked for anything in return.
Al will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love, humor, and generosity will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
A celebration of Al’s life will take place on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Lake Cowichan Fire Hall.

Papa, your love, guidance, and the warmth of your presence will be sorely missed by all of us. You were the anchor of our family, and your memory will live on in our hearts forever.

Much thanks to Dr Froese, your dedication and support was appreciated through this difficult time.
