It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our mother, Doris Merium Lucy Crook (nee Wagar). Mom was born in Edmonton to Irene and raised during the Depression with her brother Rae in a single parent home. Facing many challenges, they were a tight family unit, later joined by stepfather Larry Craddock. Rae was friends with John Crook who became the love of mom's life. They married and had four children. Family was the primary focus and pride of mom's life, and she was a ferocious supporter of those she called family. Determined when she set her mind to something, mom learned to swim in her 50s even though terrified of the water and excelled in university courses despite dropping out of high school. She had a great sense of humour and made friends wherever she went.
Mom loved to play and watch golf with dad and enjoyed many hours on golf courses in Victoria and Palm Springs. She enjoyed travel with John and, later in life, with friends to Europe, Hawaii and North and South America. She played many different card games and would win most of the time, even near the end of her life. She enjoyed dancing, crosswords and took up modeling in her 70s.
Predeceased by her parents, Irene, Fred and Larry, brother Rae, husband John, son Kenneth, grandson Levi and nephew Larry. Left to grieve are son Bob (Hughy), daughters Merium and Jan (Carol), granddaughters Cassidy, Suzanne (Olof) and Simone, great granddaughter Aria, grand dog Lexi, cousin Joel, several nieces and nephews on both the Wagar and Crook sides, and many friends.
The family would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the people who took such good care of mom at Age Care James Bay.
If desired, donations to an animal rescue of your choice are appreciated.
An informal gathering will be held on February 10, 1:00-3:00pm at the Trafalgar/Pro Patria Legion Branch 292, 411 Gorge Rd E (parking lot access off either Jutland Rd or Dunedin Rd).
