Donald Wayne Siemens (1948-2025)
Donald “Don” Siemens passed away peacefully at home on July 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his beloved wife Marcy, his daughter Julia (Scott), his son Jeff, and his cherished grandchildren Lauren, Scarlett, and Olivia. He also leaves behind his loyal dogs, Cody and Tucker, and his cat, Newman—companions who brought him joy every day.
Born in Burnaby on June 19, 1948, to Kay and Elmer Siemens, Don moved to Penticton at the age of 13. Music was a lifelong passion that began early in his life; he started piano lessons at age five and went on to study under Helen Silvester through the Royal Conservatory of Music. At just 17, he earned his Associate Diploma (ARCT) in Piano Solo Performance. As a teenager, he played keyboard in a high school rock’n roll band, Mark IV. He spoke fondly of his time performing with the band and the friendships that he made.
After high school, Don moved to Vancouver to study economics at UBC, where he met the love of his life, Marcy, at a Mardi Gras-themed dance in 1969. Don graduated with his BA in Economics in 1971.
Don and Marcy married and later settled in Victoria to raise their children. He was a devoted, gentle-natured father who enjoyed playing pranks on his loved ones and appreciated a good laugh. He taught his children to be kind and compassionate to people and the many animals that were part of the family over the years. Don loved his family and his dogs dearly.
Throughout his life, Don had many careers—from bank loan manager, entrepreneur, musician, and craftsman. He had a deep love of restoring cars, tackling building projects, composing music, and most importantly, spending time with his family. Later in life, he recorded and released two piano albums, staying true to the creative spirit that was inspired early on.
In retirement, Don and Marcy travelled to many places such as Whitehorse, New York City, and Europe, including Spain, where they walked the Camino de Santiago trail. They spent many months traveling by motorhome throughout the USA and Canada exploring the many parks and beaches and also jumped at the opportunity to join their children and grandchildren on cruises to Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean and Eastern Canada.
Losing Don is a profound loss for our tight-knit family. He was the best dad, husband, grandpa, and friend; he will be deeply loved and missed forever.
A memorial service will be held at Metchosin Community House, 4430 Happy Valley Rd, Victoria, BC on Sunday, October 5th, 2025, at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting a local animal shelter, Alzheimer Society of Canada, the Red Cross or a music education program.
