David John Trudel
February 12, 1956 – November 2, 2021
After a courageous struggle with cancer, David passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria BC. Predeceased by his father, Dr. Andre Trudel in 1997, David is survived by many friends and family including his mother Anne Trudel of Vancouver, his daughters Lucia Espino of Victoria and Anna Maria Trudel of Montreal, Quebec, his sisters Andrea Trudel (Gerald de Montigny) of Gatineau, Quebec, Judith Trudel (Rob Westgate) of Sooke, BC, Lisa Trudel (Margaret Buis) of Toronto, Ontario, his brother Paul Trudel of Vancouver, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins across Canada and around the world, and his longtime and constant companion, Anne Kelly of Victoria.
Born in Quebec City, David grew up in Haney BC where he attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and Maple Ridge Secondary School. He also attended Shawnigan Lake Boys School on Vancouver Island, St. George’s Boys School in Vancouver and Simon Fraser University in Burnaby. David worked for many years for the BC Provincial Government in Victoria, however his passion was to advocate for environmental and social justice. He believed land is sacred and that we must protect the forests for those who cannot speak: the birds, animals, fish and trees. David enjoyed the beauty of ocean tides, evening sunsets, shadows in the bright sunlight, stars in the night sky, poetry, literature, music, film, theatre and the arts, and stories with wit and purpose.
David requested no service; instead he wanted a promise from us to celebrate and defend earth’s beauty and biodiversity. David will be missed by all who knew him.
