It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, Dave.
He was also a much loved gramps, great grampa, brother, brother in law, Uncle and friend.
Dad was born in Victoria, BC, the eldest child of Bernard and Phoebe Simmons.
He grew up in Victoria where he met his one true love, Beverley Roberts almost 70 years ago. They married in 1960 and by 1966 had 3 children. They were married 57 years when mum passed.
Dad started his career in the Navy & after 10 years, left in 1966 to become an Oak Bay Police officer while at the same time, co owning and running Seafarer Fish and Chips on Oak Bay Avenue.
Realizing it was time for a change, mum and dad packed up the family and moved to the Comox Valley where dad ventured in owning a Hardwood Mill, building and renovating houses and briefly opening another Seafarer Fish and Chip take out restaurant.
Dad loved renovating and kept busy doing so, building bird houses and for many years, was a member of the Comox Golf club. He would have worked and gardened to his last earthly day, had he been physically able.
He was passionate about vegetable gardening and was well known for his raspberries and tomatoes. He and mum loved their little house and yard on Comox Avenue and our entire family shared many happy memories there over the years.
Mum and dad were inseparable and over the years enjoyed fishing at Bates Beach and travelling the island camping in their motorhome with their dogs, Percy, Qeela and Jack.
Dad was devastated when mum passed in 2017 but slowly began enjoying life again. He took great joy in his grandchildren taking him to restaurants he wouldn’t dare try when mum was alive, to watching them play sports and hanging out with his kids while enjoying a Timmy’s Double-Double with a double chocolate donut. He was always insisting on treating us to coffee, or dinner and was generous to a fault.
Dad battled many health issues in the last few years of his life and never complained.
He was predeceased by his parents, our mum and tragically, granddaughter Sierra.
Left to grieve his loss are sons Mike and wife Susan, Ken and wife Kaylene, and daughter Lisa Bradshaw and husband David.
Grandchildren Tyler, Brian, Xavier, Keely, Zoe and Sam, great grandchildren Esme and Kairo, sister Pat Lidstone and husband Norm, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
We hope to hold a Celebration of dad’s life in the Comox Valley this fall.
You will be brightly shining in your red suspenders in heaven, dad! Love never ends.
