Cherry Kingsley

June 7, 1969 — November 30, 2021

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Cherry Lynne Kingsley in her 53rd year on November 30th 2021.

Loving mother to Dakota Kingsley, and beloved sister to Sherry Lynn/ Leanne, Terry Lynn, Erik(Corene) and Cyril(Kim). Dear Aunt to Heather, Dakota, Skylar, Avery Lynn Sonnet, Olivia, Hunter, and Ava.

Cherry worked many years as a child advocate for sexually exploited children. She became a prominent voice for marginalized young people, and brought greater public understanding of the issue to the public and world leaders. In 2000 she was the recipient of the Governor General Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case for her work as a Child Advocate with a child rights organization called Save the Children.

In 2002, she also received the Queens Golden Jubilee Metal in Humanities. Cherry's work inspired many people, her determination, resilience, and love had a profound impact on the people who knew and loved her. Her contribution to make the world a safer place for children will live on forever and never be forgotten.

Cherry will be deeply missed by her son Dakota, family, and many friends, including her dearest friend Cameron, Ethel, Melanie, Kim, and Senator Landon Pearson, and many more. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff a Nanaimo Hospital for their care, including friends Aimee, Val, Michelle, and Renee.

Cherry requested that her ashes be taken to Esketemc/Alkali Lake BC. Due to covid and BC floods, service and celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Please leave your condolences and post any photos with Cherry. The family wish to express their thanks and take comfort in all the out pouring of love and affection for our beautiful sister Cherry.

A GoFundMe account has been started to help with funeral related expenses, as well for head stone, Celebration of Life, feast, and Lehal games
