Charles Stanley “Charlie” Kumor (Charlie K) of Sooke, B.C. passed away on September 17, 2025. He is remembered by his siblings – Peter, Kim, Judy, Mike and predeceased by his brother Stanley. Charlie was predeceased by his son Charles Abraham “Chad” Kumor, and is survived by his 4 grandchildren – Jack & Olivia Kumor and Cecilia & Charlie Studley.
Charlie grew up in Toronto’s East end where he had opportunity to play guitar at many music venues. From these roots he developed his singing and emotive music styles (blues, smooth jazz and country).
Charlie moved to Canada’s west coast and studied Criminology & Criminal Justice and then became a social service worker with the B.C. government. His real passion was music and later creating original music as a singer/song-writer. He did manage to combine his love of music with travel through a few contracts with Holland America Cruise lines.
Charlie also had a lifelong love for animals and was a long time supporter of many environmental causes.
In the later part of his life Charlie made the move from Victoria B.C. to Sooke B.C. where he found many many friends that shared the same passion for music. Charlie eventually became a regular entertainer at the Shirley Sunday Market in Sooke, as well as the Royal Canadian Legion, Sooke Branch 54, and he also played at the 39 Days of July Festival in Duncan.
In the last few years there was a sense of urgency, and Charlie wrote many songs. We are fortunate to have his music carry on. Charlie will be remembered always for his love of music and the many friendships he shared.
May his memory and music bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
His loving spirit will be missed.
Rest in peace Charlie.
