Barbara Elsie Christine Morley (née Kierstead)
December 6, 1929 – March 26, 2026
Our dear Mum, Barbara, aged 96, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, British Columbia, surrounded by her loving children.
Born on December 6, 1929 in Vancouver, BC to Stanley and Elsie Kierstead, her early years were spent on a small farm in Aldergrove. She recalled many fond memories of growing up there. The family later moved to Chilliwack, where she lived with her parents and two sisters.
Pursuing a career in nursing, she became a Registered Nurse in 1952 and practiced at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, BC. While in Vancouver, she met and married her husband, Wilfred.
Moving to Ottawa, Ontario, the couple returned to BC after a year, eventually settling in Victoria. Mum then devoted herself to raising three children, and creating a warm and welcoming home for her family.
Mum was a descendant of the Deans family, one of the first settlers in the Saanich area of Victoria. She was very proud of her ancestry and would speak often of her heritage.
She’ll be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, delicious home cooked meals and quick wit. Mum always had a crossword puzzle book at her side, and was eager to play a good game of Scrabble or Trivia.
Predeceased by her beloved husband of 71 years, Wilfred, and her sister, Norah, she leaves behind her children: Christine (Wayne), Gary (Patricia), Jeffrey (Sanae); her grandchildren: Joel, Laura, and Stacey; her great-grandchildren: Olivia, Henry, Miles, and Victoria and her sister Patricia (Patty) of Kelowna, BC, plus nieces and nephews throughout BC and Alberta.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Luther Court Society, and the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their care and compassion.
Donations, if desired, may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Diabetes Canada.
