Obituary for Ann Elizabeth Thorpe
Saturday 24th August 2024

1944-2024

Ann married her surviving husband Bill in May of 1965 at St Mary's Parish Church, Whitchurch in Cardiff, Wales.

On her life journey - from being the middle sibling to brothers John and Richard - Ann herself became a proud mum to 3 children (Paul, Karen and Victoria) and a grandma (Nanna) to 4 special grandchildren (Benjamin, Maya, Ella and Oliver).

Life's long journey took Ann from her home birth country of Wales to live in England, Singapore and for the past 41 years to Canada. Ann always remained a proud Welshwoman, always reminding people she was Welsh not English!

On leaving school Ann worked in the clerical field, although her personal desire was to train and work in the culinary field, but this was not to be so as she instead devoted her time to being the most wonderful mother.

Ann enjoyed travelling and was fortunate in her life to visit so many places and cultures:
Singapore, Canada, Hong Kong, China, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Holland, Czech Republic, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Bermuda, Bahamas, Italy, USA, Mexico, Scotland, Malaysia, Gibralta, Austria and, last but certainly not least (visiting a number of times) her favorite destination of France (in particular the town Antibes on the Cote d' Azur)

Ann developed a passion for photography, often using subject opportunities from the many and varied places & architectures seen on her travels. Ann's photographic talent was not just her eye behind the camera but included self-taught skills, using all the software and processes to turn her images into final works of art created in many mediums. She exhibited some of her work, and it was indeed a real interest and passion.

Although Ann's final years were anything but kind healthwise, due to Parkinsons and lung cancer, she faced the adversity with considerable fear but also so much courage.

A verse discovered in one of Ann's old notebooks is so true about her difficult final years:

It's easy to cry that you're beaten — and die;
It's easy to crawfish and crawl;
But to fight and to fight when hope's out of sight —
Why, that's the best game of them all!
And though you come out of each gruelling bout,
All broken and beaten and scarred,
Just have one more try — it's dead easy to die,
It's the keeping-on-living that's hard.

"The Quitter " 3rd verse - Robert W Service

Ann you will be missed so much.
Bon Voyage and rest in peace.

A memorial/celebration service including scattering of ashes in the way Ann wished will be held at a date and location to be announced
